Farmers looking for innovative new ways to power their farm equipment can take advantage of purchase incentives of up to $5,000 when they purchase eligible propane-fueled farm equipment in 2014. These incentives are part of the Propane Education & Research Council’s (PERC) attempt to reduce harmful impacts on the environment as well as help farmers improve their bottom line.
In 2013, the PERC saw record results, distributing more than $627,000 in purchase incentives to farmers across all 50 states. This number is reflective of 219 farmers purchasing new propane-fueled irrigation engines, grain dryers and other eligible equipment. To receive these incentives it was required that farmers supply feedback and performance data to the PERC.
Those farmers looking to purchase cost-effective and efficient propane-fueled equipment in 2014 can receive purchase incentives up to $5,000 on eligible equipment by simply filling out an enrollment application. As in year’s past, performance data and feedback will be required prior to receiving incentives. According to the PERC, nearly 865,000 farms in the U.S. currently use propane to run pumps and engines, heat buildings and process crops.
“Propane is an extremely versatile fuel, and PERC is continually working with manufacturers to improve and build on existing technology,” Leitman said. “The feedback and performance data we receive from farmers who participate in the Propane Farm Incentive Program helps us build better technology to meet the needs of those who use it the most: farmers.”
